Full Name: Icarus Syer
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Magic: Warlock, WRAITH?
Affiliations: CAFE
Rank: Field Agent
Description: Icarus doesn’t exactly blend in or stand out. Instead, he sort of is. People will notice him, but people can also go their way without noticing him. He doesn’t care about subterfuge or hiding things, not to the extent that most in his organization do.
An unnatural shadow stains his skin, particularly around his hands, to a ghastly grey colour. The result of spending too much time around the Other. His body is likewise adorned with a variety of trinkets: silvery tassels hang from the strings of his sleeve, a bundle of owl feathers hangs from his neck and belt, and what appears to be a gold and amethyst ankh also hangs from his belt. All of these, and the many others he may carry, have their uses in summoning particular demons and creatures, as well as the odd exorcism he does.
Due to his training, Icarus is quite a well-built individual. He has to be able to run away from danger, after all, and kill when necessary. Being a member of CAFE, especially with a magic as finicky as ritualism, means you have to be able to protect yourself. Likewise, he carries two katanas with him on dangerous missions. Contrary to the many jokes, he is not stupid enough to try to wield these at the same time. Instead, one is better for slaying fae and humans, and the other is better for dealing with the tougher demons. If he expects to only fight one or the other, he’ll drop the one he isn’t using.
In terms of the plain details, he has black hair, stands at 182 centimeters--that’s six feet for those unable to process metric, and has a generally larger frame. He wears a black tunic that has a silver embroidered trim on one flap, uses multiple cloth belts (apparently some are purely functional, while others are used for magic), and wears black boots that come up to just below his knees.
Personality: Icarus isn’t someone for deception. For the most part, what he presents himself as is what he really is. He and his family have dedicated their lives to CAFE, and he intends to keep up this dedication. On the field, he places the utmost importance on doing his job--he doesn’t do well with fooling around and playing games. Off the field, he’s much more relaxed. He’ll play pranks on the unsuspecting, and mess around when it’s allowed.
Socially, Icarus strives to be understanding, but he isn’t always the best for that job. He recognizes the importance of social acceptance and understanding, both on the field and off, but he really fails to get some people. The average person, he can get along fine with. A kid who’s lost their parents, he thinks that the best thing to do is just “toughen up and keep going”. He’s not an inspiring leader.
His dedication to work doesn’t make him fanatical, as some might assume from his attitude on the field. Much the contrary, he is perfectly happy with people who are more relaxed at CAFE, even those who joke around. Many times in his life, he’s had to take a step back and recognize the importance of those he works with: both the jokesters, who keep the spirit alive, and the diligent, who keep the work going, are equally important and dependent upon each other. And as the years have passed, he’s gone from angsty teenager who hopes to be the best in the world, to his current day, relaxed self.
History: Icarus was born into a fully magical family. He was effectively destined for the life of CAFE, and he knew it as well. His family didn’t try to keep CAFE too secretive from him, just enough that he couldn’t go blabbering to his friends. When he was fifteen, his magic came, and he promptly started studying.
When he was sixteen, his mother died fighting the Hivemind. She was one of his idols: an incredibly powerful exorcist who focused on fieldwork. He always saw her kicking ass, and he really wanted to be just like her. For the next few years, he studied magic intensely. He quickly moved onto Chaosmancy, especially to figure out more of the Other.
In his twenties, he started fieldwork. For a few years, he was a bit awkward on the field. Overly following the rules, not exactly aiming to gather information, but rather the explicitly stated object. But, he grew into a fantastic field agent. He started to prefer going solo, especially as a hunter of high level fae, demons, and hivemind creatures. Recently, he’s been working less in the Between and more on Earth, as the activity of cultists and demons has been keeping him busy.
