NAME: Faai Jafri. Also known as Isadore Meredeth by… certain people.
GENDER: Male.
RACE: Doppelganger, although he still thinks of himself as human.
AGE: 16
MAGIC: Alchemy (Transmutation). Actually rather talented.
AFFILIATIONS: MI13.
RANK: Student at Ravensdale (eventually). Right now, sort of Apprentice.
DESCRIPTION
Faai has two main forms: his birth form, and the form he uses as Isadore Meredeth. Recently, he’s spent most of his time as Isadore Meredeth, and only transforms back to Faai-form for his shadier dealings.
Faai Jafri is a young man of Arabic descent. He is tall, but looks taller because of how slender he is. His hair is about neck-length, and dyed white with grey at the tips. Before he became a doppel, he still had baby fat, but that stopped in the days after his transition, when he refused to eat. In Faaiform, he usually dresses in greys, browns, and greens, frequently with a more ‘punk’ style. Generally, he keeps kifers, maps, and other gadgets useful for getting places on him. He used to dress in the traditional garb of his people, but abandoned Islam when he contracted doppelgangerism.
Isadore Meredeth is also a teenage boy, but instead is of English descent. His hair is naturally black, however, he bleaches it and dyes it so that it’s ice blue. Faai usually wears only black and grey in this form, with the occasional touch of blue, which complements his eyes. In contrast to Faaiform, though, as Isadore Faai wears more business casual. Isadore’s hair is long enough to tie into a ponytail. He keeps it well-groomed and hates when it’s oily. He would never be found with anything even approaching shady. Around his neck he wears a sapphire pendant on a silver chain, a gift from his dear friend Jasper Stanlyn. In Faaiform, this pendant is usually hidden to prevent theft.
Faai’s animal form is that of a white mink.
PERSONALITY
Scared. Miserable. Traumatized. Gay.
One of the first things people notice about Faai is how very quiet he is. He’s shy, not out of social anxiety but out of fear and uncertainty. Although he used to be fairly confident as a child, that all changedWHEN THE FIRENATINO ATTACKED when his parents were slaughtered by a doppel and he nearly lost his life. After that, he’s been considerably (and understandably) more scared and cautious.
The death of his parents and his doppelgangerism affect him a lot, actually. Most of the time he is depressed and traumatized. He hasn’t really had anyone to talk to about the whole doppelganger fiasco, as the death of his family is an official secret and the doppelganger watching over him isn’t exactly parental material. There’s a lot of insecurity tied up within his doppelgangerism, too. He’s a teenager, and being a doppelganger makes him both extremely different and extremely good at blending in, so he’s a little conflicted about his self-identity.
However, with his best friend Jasper, Faai can at least briefly forget the fact that his parents are dead and he’s living under a false alias. When comfortable, Faai opens up, displaying a quick mind and a rather dry, dark sense of humor. He is in many ways a typical teenage boy--he eats a lot (admittedly, it gives him no nourishment, but Ced learned quickly to send large meals of blood), makes the occasional lewd joke, and would desperately like to have independence and to figure himself out.
Faai is also incredibly grateful to the Stanlyn family for taking him in. He understands the value of the education Jasper and he receives better than Jasper, and tries hard at his studies to make sure he gets its full worth. He’s been a bit of a positive influence on Jasper in this way.
Faai rarely transforms into his animal shape. He’s terrified of it.
HISTORY
Faai grew up in the bad side of town. His parents worked hard, but even then, they were lower middle class.
One night, the three of them were heading home from a dinner out when they were attacked by a crazed doppelganger. Both of his parents were killed when the doppel drained them dry. Faai was thirteen at the time, and only survived when the doppel was accosted by MI13 agents and accidentally injected him with venom.
The MI13 agents spared him because he was only a boy and obviously didn’t deserve to die because of an accident. At first, Faai refused to feed, but eventually hunger overcame his abhorrence. MI13 put him in contact with a man named Cedric Blacksilver , who also happened to be a non-crazy (well, not really) doppelganger. Cedric took Faai as a sort of tenant, feeding Faai for MI13 from his own considerable blood stores, but Cedric was definitely not the parental figure that Faai needed. In fact, he wasn’t really a parental figure of any sort.
Instead, Faai found his new family in high society. Cedric was a noble, and one of the first things he did was have Faai establish a second identity--that of Isadore Meredeth--as the son of a friend of Cedric’s who’d recently died. While acting as Isadore, Faai met Jasper Stanlyn, a boy of about the same age. Jasper was much more outgoing and certain of himself than the shy and traumatized Faai, and that allowed a friendship to blossom. Soon, the two were inseparable.
Eventually, after a rash of rumors about the coldheartedness of the Stanlyn family, Isadore was sort of just absorbed into them at age fourteen. Although Faai knew it was a political move, he was still grateful. The education Jasper got was much better than anything he’d have gotten with his old family. Through secret drop-offs and meetings, Cedric’s servants delivered Faai’s weekly dose of blood. Ced also occasionally checked up on him, as he was one of the few doppelgangers that MI13 trusted even a little and was responsible for the younger doppel’s health.
Faai developed magic powers at fifteen. He showed aptitude with alchemical transmutation, although not with much else. Still, he was apprenticed and encouraged to explore his talent. It was around this time that he also figured out his massive crush on Jasper. This knowledge has helped exactly not at all.
