Full Name: Kurou Rin
Gender: Male
Age: 73, appears early twenties
Magic: Golemancy, Telepathy, Elementalism. Also Prometheology.
Race: Peltshifter (Kitsune)
Organization: the Whisperdark Coven
Rank: Asshole
Description:
Colorless. That’s the first adjective most people think of when meeting Rin for the first time. He has pale skin and white hair, even though he appears young and otherwise healthy. This appearance is a little unsettling, and given his tendency to wander around in the dark, he is sometimes mistaken for a ghost.
Leucistic. That’s the actual term for it. Rin has a lack of pigment in his skin and hair in a less extreme version of albinism. This means he burns easily, but has normally-colored eyes and less of the eye problems associated with albinism. His skin is exceptionally pale, and he does not tan. He prefers the indoors and will burn if made to go outside.
Rin’s eyes are a steely blue, and seem only to add to his colorlessness. In darkness, they glow a soft pearly grey. His glasses are steel-rimmed and very thick--he is extremely nearsighted, and can basically only read books without his glasses on. He has several identical pairs, and tries to keep a backup on him at all times.
His clothing is where the colorlessness trips up. He favors extremely modern black and white clothes, usually formal suits and jackets, but sometimes with inspiration from cyberpunk dress, and always with brightly contrasting, brilliantly colored highlights. Most frequently, they’re a scarlet, magenta, or a brilliant purple. At least one layer besides the bright undershirt will be long-sleeved, so that if he is forced outside, he can cover his skin.
Rin’s frame is thin. He is not much of a combatant, and it shows. His limbs are thin and there is little fat on him. Part of the reason for this is that he occasionally forgets to feed himself. His slender fingers are long and delicate, frequently adorned with several metal rings that he likes to fidget with.
His carriage is prim and elegant, every movement as graceful and smooth as a fox’s. He comes from a long and proud line of foxes, and as such was taught the mannerisms and poise of nobility. Although he is no combatant, Rin is a trained dancer. Ballet is one of his few hobbies besides magic, but recently he’s decided he likes figure skating more.
Frequently, Rin can be found with a pencil behind one ear and any number of papers on him. If he's planning on going outside, he will bring a black umbrella with him and use it as a cane while indoors. This umbrella has a hidden blade that can be withdrawn with a spring-loaded mechanism triggered by a hidden switch. The blade is poisoned with viper poison that causes numbness and paralysis.
His fox form is a white fox. His pelt usually takes the form of a kitsune mask.
Personality:
Many people find it difficult to understand the ways in which Rin’s mind works. After all, Rin is undoubtedly brilliant. He is an inventor, after all, and responsible for some of the most advanced magitech in the world. As one might expect, he’s clever, excellent at adapting and ad libbing, and creative. And he absolutely adores his work.
However, those that stick around Rin discover that he’s… absentminded. Not necessarily about his inventions, and he can list magical facts off the top of his head, but he’ll do things like forget what day it is, what time it is, or whether or not he’s eaten. He will frequently go out to purchase something and forget what he was doing about halfway there.
To make sure that he remembers what he’s doing, he adheres to a very strict routine. His sleeping and waking times are both precisely kept track of, and once a week he makes a trip for groceries (tofu and adzuki beans are his particular favorites) that he has time allotted for in which he is not allowed to do anything else. Rin likes order, and is very upset when something disrupts his schedule. He is also nearly impossible to wake up.
Rin dislikes going outside during the day and is practically nocturnal. He will only venture out during the night, usually on business, and tries to hire other people to do things like buy him groceries. Neighbors are always a little concerned for him, but he does not particularly care. Part of the reason he dislikes the outdoors so much is that his skin burns so easily, and thus it’s a lot easier for him to venture out on an overcast day or at night. He gets slightly anxious when outside on a sunny day, even if he’s in a perfectly shaded area. He will become twitchier and more nervous, and more likely to abruptly leave or something of the sort.
His sense of humor is hard to find, but bitingly present in everything he says and does. His humor is very dry and sarcastic, and usually involves him dead panning incredibly sarcastic lines. He is unwaveringly polite, no matter the situation, but uses his politeness to cover backhanded compliments and unholy amounts of snark.
Rin is also relatively socially capable while being bafflingly emotionally incapable. Although he’s more than capable of interacting with other people politely in social situations, Rin seems to not really know how to form deep emotional bonds, and frequently pushes people away simply because he doesn’t know what else to do. It’s not that he can’t emotionally bond with people, it’s just that he doesn’t really know how to handle that bond.
When under stress or in an emergency situation, Rin’s mind seems to actually ground itself in reality. He is useless in combat but his magical powers can serve him well in giving him enough time to run away.

History:
Born into one of the most prominent fox families of Japan, Rin’s pale pelt stood out from his siblings. However, his parents didn’t particularly mind, especially once he started demonstrating his magical prowess, and he was encouraged to read more and learn more about magic.
Because he spent most of his childhood in the library of the nobles’ estate his family inhabited or sneaking around and observing human children at their lessons, Rin didn’t really get much social or emotional interaction with… anyone, really. Sure, he was able to watch social interactions and learn from them, but rarely did he participate in them himself. He honestly didn’t mind (and still doesn’t). He believes that the knowledge he picked up is far more valuable than any social relationship.
Due to his reclusiveness, his parents were content to use his magitechnical prowess as bragging rights and let their son do whatever he wanted. As such, he spent most of his time with his nose buried in books or messing around in his laboratory.
When he was around twenty, Rin found his passion: origami. Origami golems, to be exact. Imbuing paper with sentience, he was able to create a myriad of devices that had could transform themselves to fit different purposes--and hide in filing cabinets at a moment’s notice, which was way more useful than he’d anticipated. Not long after, he began to play with hooking up his golems to himself with telepathy, and was able to create artificial limbs of paper. He made it big in the magical world when he revealed a pair of paper wings that could be harnessed to a person and controlled just like any other part of their body. Since then he's gone bigger and better, creating all sorts of artificial limbs and constructs that can be custom-fit to a mind and require little to no effort to control.
Ten years ago, Rin accidentally developed a crush on one of his few friends. Not knowing how to handle this strange jittery feeling when he was around the object of his affections, Rin quietly arranged to move across the world in order to avoid him.
Now he lives above his small studio in London, spending his days in happy reclusion--well, he actually spends his days asleep. At night, he gets up and works on his inventions. His parents made him swear that he would attend the Whisperdark Coven’s meetings to ensure that he had at least someone to interact with (although he would’ve gone anyway, he has to sell his inventions, you know).
Other:
