FROM THE FILES OF MI13
CODENAME REDACTED: HISTORY
The faeliens were first brought to the attention of our government during the worst of the bombings of London in the Blitz. From September 7, 1940, London was bombed for 57 consecutive nights. By the time that was over, the faeliens were in uproar.
First recorded contact with a faelien occurred on November 3, 1940. An enraged Colchis Bull levelled an entire section of the city before it was gotten under control by the Whisperdark Coven (although, at the time, the military wasn’t sure how it was stopped). The confused bystanders weren’t sure if it was mythical creature or alien, and so the government agents working on the case created the term “faelien.” The government covered it up, but after the worst nights of the Blitz more faeliens began to run amok, adding to the damage of the bombings.
After the war was over, in June 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill authorized the creation of MI13, or the Center for Alien-Fae Extermination. CAFE had a lot to learn, and quickly. Operating under the utmost secrecy, the first Chief of CAFE, a woman who went exclusively by Nocturne, began to ruthlessly train her agents. The agency got off to a strong start, and quickly discovered the four major Crossroads in London. However, the more they learned, the more they realized that they were not the dominant supernatural force in the city.
CAFE discovered the existence of the Whisperdark Coven in 1962, but it was some time before they could even begin to pin down the members, let alone the ringleaders. The Coven itself had been founded in 75 AD, thirty years or so after the founding of London itself, during the population boom after its reconstruction. As far as CAFE can tell, faeliens have always existed, mostly in Between but occasionally crossing over into reality. Their origin remains unknown.
By 1965, CAFE had begun to mobilize units to eliminate faeliens (usually faegenics) whom it deemed dangerous or immoral. CAFE had discovered faegenics in the late 1950s, after executives realized they’d been infiltrated by at least one doppelganger.
CAFE continued to grow in size and competency through the next few decades. In 1969, the Recruitment wing won a bonus, and Ravensdale Private Academy for the Gifted was founded in an old mansion just outside of London. The agency was careful not to specify how the children were gifted, and it became a bit of a running gag.
In 1985, the WRAITH Programme was founded by a particular Doppelganger, which allows for certain agents with a certain skill set to have their shadow severed from them to become a semi-intelligent companion. WRAITH is kept a secret from even most of CAFE, and only top-level covert agents who usually prefer solo missions undergo the ritual.
Up through the present day, CAFE has been securing its hold on the magic underworld of London and further training its agents. There are no reports of other Crossroads throughout Britain, although CAFE believes that they exist, and are simply hidden--after all, the only reason the faeliens revealed themselves in London was because of the Blitz. However, CAFE has no method to detect Crossroads, which is a major current project within CAFE’s Research Division.
